A Trust is a financial arrangement where you, the Grantor, transfer the legal title to your property to another, the Trustee, which then manages the property for you, for members of your family, or for any other beneficiary (person or organization) you might designate.

First American Bank & Trust provides comprehensive services as a Trustee.

Living Trusts
You may establish and activate a Living Trust during your lifetime.
It could be a Revocable Living Trust, where you may add assets to or withdraw assets from this trust, and you may amend it from time to time at your discretion. Or it could be an Irrevocable Living Trust, and the terms cannot be amended.

Testamentary Trusts
These trusts are created as a provision of your Will and do not go into effect until after your death.

Special Needs Trust
Administration of a Special Needs Trust can be quite daunting as misappropriation or incorrect distribution of funds may cause significant issues with government benefits. An experienced corporate Trustee will provide peace of mind that these benefits are secure.

An Executor is the representative you have named to carry out the instructions you have outlined in your Will. While many people nominate a family member or a friend to serve in this position, there are reasons to consider naming First American Bank & Trust to serve in this capacity or as Co-Executor:

  • The Bank is an established member of the financial community.
  • Professional Executors are held to a higher standard than individuals. The Trust Department is trained and experienced in estate administration and performs these types of functions daily.
  • Accurate record keeping is essential in proper estate administration, as is clear and concise reporting of information. Our Trust Department has the tools and the experience required to provide information in a format that is easy to understand.
  • By appointing our Trust Department, impartiality and objectivity will be maintained through the administration process.

Your financial future is at the heart of what we do. At First American, we take an integrated investment management approach. You can expect personal attention, access to a broad range of services, and competitive investment returns with the convenience of investing at your hometown bank. The Trust Department offers customized investment strategies suited to each client’s goals.

A secure retirement is on the mind of every worker. And now, because we live longer, healthier lives, we can expect to spend more time in retirement. That makes planning more important than ever. We have the experience and the time-tested ability to help you reach those goals.

A 1031 exchange is an IRS-approved strategy that allows real estate investors to defer capital gains taxes by reinvesting the proceeds from a sold investment property into a new, like-kind property. The Trust Department at First American can serve as a Qualified Intermediary for approved 1031 transactions.
